IQNA – The US’ largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization denounced the Israeli regime’s attack on Palestinian families – mostly women and children – seeking to return to their homes in devastated North Gaza.

According to one news agency: “Israeli forces shelled displaced Palestinians on Gaza’s Al Rasheed Street as they were attempting to return to their homes in the north of the enclave. At least five people including a woman were killed and a number of people were injured, medical sources told AA.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the move as well as the widespread attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank by illegal Israeli settlers, protected by the Israeli regime's military.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“It should clear by now to anyone with an open mind that the far-right Israeli government’s intent from the beginning of its attack on Gaza has been to ethnically cleanse the area and to make it unlivable for anyone who seeks to remain.

“While Israeli forces fire on civilians seeking to return to their destroyed homes, the Biden administration still refuses to take concrete action to end the ongoing genocide. This must stop. Our nation’s actions are making a mockery of international law and respect for universal human rights.”

On Saturday, CAIR said the Biden administration must reject the far-right Israeli government’s “transparent” attempt to distract from the Gaza genocide by dragging the US into a regional war and instead demand that the Israeli government de-escalate the crisis it started by bombing an Iranian embassy building.

On Friday, CAIR said that President Biden must take action following comments by USAID Chief Samantha Powell agreeing with the UN’s assessment that a famine is imminent in Gaza and reports of massacres committed by Israeli forces at the Al-Shifa Hospital.

CAIR also condemned the killing of 25 people in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza City.

Democrats, Republicans and independents have all become less supportive of Israel’s operation in Gaza than they were in December. Then, a narrow majority approved of Israeli conduct. The latest figures show that a majority, 55%, disapprove of Israel’s actions, while 36% approve.
